Domaine Labet Chardonnay "Lias" 2022

$140.00

Massal- and clonal-selected vines, planted between 1975 and 1994, average 45 years in age and are drawn from three distinct lieu-dits: La Bardette, Le Montceau and Chalasse. The vineyards root in Liasic marls (marnes de lias) over Bathonian limestone bedrock—a mineral foundation that shapes the wine’s taut backbone and saline poise.

The wine spends 34 months in a blend of 228-, 500- and 600-litre barrels. No additions. Unfiltered. A prolonged élevage and extended on-lees period produced subtle autolytic complexity that can vary bottle to bottle. Delicately floral and pastoral—country garden notes of soft white petals and jasmine, threaded with beeswax that imparts a polished, gently patinated character. Persistent intensity and a precise, understated elegance. On the palate the first impression is of wet rock—mineral, cool and driven. A vertical, integrated line of acidity and texture gives the wine poise and grace, allowing the gentle floral aromatics to unfurl and dance across the palate. Sapid and sunlit, the vintage remains youthful with significant aging potential.
